Computers have become so reliable these days that it is easy to forget that they will eventually break down. Unfortunately, our computers will break down one day and we are constantly at risk of losing all of our data.

Throughout the years I’ve purchased a few different brands for various reasons. I’ve found that the best portable hard drive is not the same as the best large desk top hard drive.

What I like about this hard drive is that it is not bloated with lots of software. Many times you purchase external hard drives and they have all kinds of software already installed on them. The software installed is usually poorly made automatic back up software or free trials that are a nuisance rather than helpful.

As far as portable external hard drives, I tend to favor the Seagate models. Right now they have a very good 750 GB model out. The Seagate Expansion 750 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive is just as small as my 500 GB version and can be powered via your computer and its usb plug.

This means that you do not have to have an external power source to power up your hard drive. It might not seem like a big issue when you are in your house, but when you are working off a battery powered laptop and are not near outlets, it is crucial to have an external hard drive that does not need an outlet.
